Job had been in excruciating pain for months, with open sores all over his
body. During this time, he was dealing with the loss of seven sons and three
daughters. His entire fortune had vanished in a single day.
Job's sufferings were deliberately chosen by God to prove to Satan and the armies of heaven that he valued God's worth more than his possessions, family, and health.
In the book of Job, Job's self-professed love for God shows that he loved
God more than anything else in the world.

There is so much suffering in the world today, and it is felt by everyone to
one degree or another.
Sometimes, people suffer as the direct result of their own poor choices, or
willful irresponsibility; in those cases. We see the truth of Proverbs 13:15,
"The way of the treacherous is their ruin." What about the innocent
who suffer and why would God allow that?
The good news is that God did not abandon us to suffer in vain. Yes, the
innocent suffer (see Job 1–2), but God is able to redeem their agony. Our
loving and merciful God has a perfect plan to use our suffering to achieve his
threefold goal.
First, he uses pain and suffering to entice us to cling to him. Trials and
tribulations are not unusual in life; they are a natural part of being human in
a fallen world.
We have an anchor in Christ that will hold fast in all of life's storms, but
how will we know that if we never sail into those storms? We reach out to him
in times of despair and sorrow, and if we are his children, he is always there
to comfort and uphold us through it all.
