We all go through times when our prayers seem ineffective, our worship feels empty, or we feel alone, wondering if God cares or even notices what we’re going through. When those seasons arrive, our old spiritual routines are no longer enough. With all of our activities, worries, and distractions, it’s true that we may have strayed away from God. God has never abandoned us or disowned us, to be sure.
Some of us may believe and feel that God has abandoned us, but this is not the case.
We went our separate ways, leaving him to pursue our own desires. We left him for the job, the car, the high-end gadget, the person, and the happiness we’d been searching for. We must return, just as the prodigal son in Luke 15 did.God is waiting for you, just like the father of the prodigal son. We won’t be able to find the answer to our wandering by looking within ourselves. We can no longer be selfish when we realize his longing for companionship with us and how difficult it is for him when we abandon him. It may be difficult, but if we are faithful in this life, God promises to cleanse and purify us.This purification enables us to re-establish a healthy relationship with God.
