Generational curses are remarked to be passed down from one generation to the next as a result of disobedience against God. You are most likely cursed if your family line is marked by anti-marriage, deprivation, anxiety, divorce or other ungodly patterns.
Affirming to the Bible, these curses are the result of choices. Conforming to Deuteronomy 30:19, we have the option of choosing life and blessing or death and cursing. Many traits and preferences that we inherit from our parents are not always positive influences on ourselves or others.
The Bible explains in Psalm 106 that God was furious with the Israelites because they sinned against him and they worshipped idols. However, in verse 45, it is stated that God remembered the covenant and, out of his great love, relented, causing those who held them captive to love them. God can forgive both our sins (transgressions and the sins of our forefathers).
When we pray, we should remind God of our covenant with him, as well as the covenant he made with our forefathers.
Affirming to Genesis 17:7, “I will make my covenant with you and your descendants. As an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you, throughout their generations.” And we should pray to God not to let us suffer as a result of our Ancestors’ sins, but to bless us as a result of what Jesus did on the cross.
When we obey God, he establishes an everlasting peace covenant with us. And the Bible explains to us in Ezekiel 37:26 that he will place and multiply us and will establish his sanctuary in our midst forever.
These are the covenants we should constantly remind God of whenever we feel like we are experiencing what our parents did.
We must humble ourselves, pray, seek his face, and repent of our evil ways, according to 2 Chronicles 7:14. Then the Lord will hear us from heaven, forgive our sin, and heal our land.
God has already given us His power, anointing, and authority to trample on all of our adversaries’ power—and some of our adversaries are definitely demonic spirits. It is critical that we break these curses so that our future generations does not have to face them.
Generational curses that are passed down through the family line must be terminated before they affects future generations. How we live today can either be a blessing or a curse to our children and grandchildren. Let us be obedient to our God and keep the covenant we made with him.
