What can we learn from Hannah’s story

Have you been frustrated, disheartened, or felt like there is a need in your life, yet nothing appears to change since the enemy continues to attack? You are not alone; we all endure difficult trials and seasons in life, but seeking God in prayer will guide, uplift, and inspire us to continue in faith. Let's learn and be inspired by Hannah's incident. Her faith, behavior, and influence will motivate us to acknowledge our own contribution in our daily lives. Hannah is a woman in the Bible who faced a lot of difficulty in her life yet remained consistent in her pursuit of the Lord.

Hannah's story in 1 Samuel 1 exposes her emotional struggles and tribulations as a barren woman in ancient Israel. Her husband, Elkanah, had two wives: Hannah and Peninnah. While Peninnah had children, Hannah remained childless, which was extremely distressing for her. In that civilization, a woman's worth was frequently linked to her capacity for bearing children, making barrenness not just a personal tragedy but also a public shame. Despite her sadness and Peninnah's persistent provocation, Hannah continued to seek the Lord. Rather than taking revenge or becoming bitter, she expressed her anguish to God.

When we read Hannah's story, we learn that she faces some of the same issues as we do. Okay, perhaps we are not competing with the second wife in the house. Nonetheless, we can detect similarities in our fears over not meeting society's or our own standards. We, like Hannah, struggle with finding satisfaction and contentment in our own lives. We can identify with Hannah's need to feel complete, and she takes these concerns to her Lord, who she feels can perform a miracle in her life.

Hannah's experience encourages us to remain persistent in prayer, even when we are irritated or disheartened. Despite her barrenness and the mockery of her enemy, Peninnah, Hannah persisted in her prayers for a child. Hannah trusted God to perform the impossible, knowing that His greatness can be seen in our weakness. God permits us to endure hardships in our lives in order to deepen our faith, not destroy it.

When we confront difficult seasons or relationships that appear intolerable or hopeless, let Hannah's faith in God inspire us. Speak life and victory over your situation, spirit, and future. When we are distracted by opposition, negativity, or self-doubt, we can decide to seek God's word for renewed hope and walk in the victory that comes through Christ Jesus.

I encourage you not to give up and to continue praying to God, surrendering every emotion, doubt, fear, and anxiety to Him. God embraces us like a loving parent and hears our prayers.

God reveals in order to redeem

The enemy you know is less persuasive than the enemy you don’t know. In most cases, God displays himself to us in dreams or in visions. So whenever God discloses it to you. He is warning you to take a step and to act upon what he revealed. One thing you should perceive is that your enemy is not your neighbor, sister, colleagues, etc. We only have one enemy, which is the devil. Satan is very manipulative and if you aren’t prayerful enough, you’ll end up falling in to his traps. The day you’ll understand, you’ll avoid despising them.

How to depend on Jesus

The things of this world cannot fill the empty space within us; only Christ can complete us. This embodies for us that we need Jesus more than anything else on this planet. God did not put us here to rely on ourselves, but to rely on him for everything. We can't survive without him, which is why the Bible cautions us not to rely on our own understanding, because our understanding can fail us and our hearts can lead us astray. Physically, we may appear to be capable of doing things on our own, but on the inside, we are slowly dying. I don’t know about you, but if you haven't yet accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, it’s not too late. The Bible encourages us in Jeremiah 33:3 that if we call on God, he will answer us and tell us things we don't know. God is waiting for your call today. He is waiting for you to come to him and ask him to show you the way. Here is a short prayer to seek God: Heavenly Father, please forgive me for all of my transgressions against ...

Wait upon the LORD

Life resembles a route. Additionally, there will be stop signs and speed limit or increase signs along the route! I chose to use this analogy because there are times in life when all you have to do is wait on the Almighty. And just get more prayer done when you feel like a situation has triumphed over you. Simply put on the gear and switch it out. There are moments when we may feel as though the Lord is not seeing us, hearing us, or responding to our prayers. We can place all of our faith and belief in the living God at these times. Knowing that the Lord is with us and in charge of our lives allows us to wait on Him with great anticipation. He is going to fulfill his promise. He is going to save us. Even when we are not aware of Him, He is constantly at work for our good (Romans 8:28). Waiting on the Lord is something we can learn through prayer, seeking, active trusting, patience, and courage. When we wait on the Lord, we confidently anticipate a favorable outcome, for which we ...
